How To Analyze Your AC System Problem

So your AC just stopped working, right? Here’s how to analyze your AC system problem.

You’re just getting home from a fun day at the lake and it’s close to 98 degrees outside. You unlock the door and walk in, but somethings wrong; your house is hotter’n a blister bug in a pepper patch.

How To Analyze Your AC System ProblemYour air conditioning system is not cooling at all. Many times, if you are patient and observant you might be able to get your system running again without making a call to us at AirVantage Cooling & Heating.

Key steps to analyze your ac system…

Is the inside blower working?  Is the outside unit running?
Is there ice on those lines going to the unit outside?
Is there a clogged drain?

Step 1- If you notice that the inside unit or the outside unit is not running turn the thermostat off.

Then take a look inside the breaker panel and see if there are any tripped breakers. If there are tripped breakers, you can reset them by firmly turning them off and then firmly turning them back on. Turn the thermostat back to a normal cooling setting and see if the system starts back up.

It’s still a good idea to contact AirVantage for a service call just to check the system out.

Step 2- If you notice that there is ice buildup on the lines to the outside unit shut the system off for several hours… this is to allow the ice to thaw.  The system may very well partially cool again after thawing but this condition typically requires a check-up by an AirVantage service technician to determine what was the cause of the problem in the first place.

Step 3- Another reason your air conditioning system may stop cooling can be due to a clogged drain on systems that have a drain shut off switch. (shut off switches help protect your home from water damage) Note: if you don’t have condensate drain shut off switch installed, contact AirVantage and we can install one for you.

If this is the case then the drain line needs to be cleared out and typically the system will be functional again.

By following the 3 emergency steps we’ve outlined above, you may temporarily get your air conditioning system running again… but don’t delay in calling your favorite AC repair company, AirVantage and schedule a service technician to come out and check what caused your initial problem.

These are just a few of the common problems about how to analyze your AC system problem that cause air conditioners to quit working and a good reason to have scheduled AC system check ups two times a year. For a full checkup contact AirVantage today to keep your air conditioning system working properly & keep your home and family comfortable.
